New Eden

Earth
A world outgrown scarred by war and burdened with the advance of our ancestors compelled the first voyages across space in a desperate quest to colonize other worlds.
Space
Its timeless boundries and infinite horizons forged the creation of stargates that could bridge the immence distances between the stars. Through mastery of this technology mankind ventured deeper into the cosmos. Ruthless corporations rose to power seizing every world within their gasp. When the starates could take them no futher, they turned against each other igniting conflicts that would last for centuries.

The battles raged until the historic discovery of a natural wormhole. A celestial womb through which civilization would be reborn. The first brave pioneers to enter this portal emerged unscaled transported instanly across the universe to a virgin system called New Eden. Millions of colonists soon followed in their wake lured by the vision of paradise through the astral gateway known as EVE. Spreading outwards among the stars the embraced EVE with the greatest of expectations the highest of hopes and the boldest of dreams.

When one day, Nature conspired with fate to breed the cruelest nightmare of all. The wormhole leading to New Eden collapsed, severing young colonies from their home wolds which sustained them. It was the beginning of a dark age, that would erase civilization as it was known to be. As the accumulated knowledge of millennia slowly eroded the unfinished worlds of EVE became the graveyards of millions. On the few planets that could sustain life, the last remenents of our race struggled to adapt and survive. In time, society was reborn and the memories of our past transformed into legend and myth.

Amarr - Minmatar War

The first to first to emerge from the darkness where the Amarr a monotheistic race fervently committd to their faith. The reinvented space flight and soon discovered they were not alone. The Amarr, by this time already an expansive imperial theocracy controlling dozens of star systems, stumbled across the Minmatar while the latter were still exploring their home system. Over the next century the Amarrians, in keeping with the teachings of their rigidly stabilizing priesthood, returned with increasing frequency to forcibly acquire workers from the growing Minmatar nation. These raids culminated in the wholesale invasion, annexation and enslavement of the entire Minmatar civilization some nine hundred years ago.

The Day of Darkness saw one of the worst storms ever on the biggest continent on Matar, laying incredible amount of destruction in few short hours. But greater danger loomed, because that same day six giant slave vessels entered the Pator system. From there each ship set out for a different Minmatar planet, escorted by heavily armed military ships. Once in orbit the Amarrians descended onto the surface and started rounding up people. The Minmatars put up a brave resistance, but to no avail, the superior Amarr technology swept all Minmatar armed forces away, then plundered the populace at will. In addition, the Amarrians took great care of destroying every Minmatar space ship and installation they encountered, with the intent of making it very difficult for the Minmatars to gain strong space presence.

All in all the Amarrians enslaved more than one million Minmatars in that first raid. During the next few weeks they repeated their slave-raids, capturing millions more and permanently throwing the Minmatar Empire into a state of confusion, sorrow and insecurity.

Gallente - Caldari War

At the same time the Gallente race flourished nearby. They created the first democratic republic of the new era and established a regional federation of independent states. When the Gallente confirmed the existence of another civilization, now known as the Caldari, on a neighbouring planet within their home system, they gladly welcomed the Caldari as trading partners and shared with them many enabling technologies, allowing both civilizations to grow side-by-side in an slowly-expanding coalition of disparate societies that would soon coalesce into the Gallente Federation.

Where Gallente Prime was a comfortable, temperate planet, Caldari Prime was a barely-habitable iceworld, which dictated both the relative advancement of the two peoples, and the tone of their respective cultures. As they grew together, however, these two peoples increasingly grew apart. The liberal, individualistic and easy-going Gallente had never really meshed well with the hardy, organized and communalistic Caldari, and as time progressed and their goals diverged, the strains in their relationship became chronic. Events came to a head in the brutal and protracted Caldari-Gallente War, which squandered much blood and treasure and eventually forced the Caldari to flee their ancestral homeworld. Indeed, as a society the Caldari were only saved by the substantial resources and inspired leadership of their monolithic megacorporations, who led their people to new homes around distant stars. Eventually a fragile peace settled between the newly-founded Caldari State and the still-expanding Gallente Federation, but neither side has forgotten or forgiven.

Chronicles

Jovian War

Destruction and suffering once again ecame the defining essence of our civilization. Four races, torn apart by two horrific wars. Another was precipitated by the action, or inaction, of the fifth major player in cluster politics – the enigmatic Jovians, who say very little, but cast a long shadow. When their faces were still new to the four Empires, and their prowess was unmeasured, the Amarrians sought to subjugate them as they had countless other cultures since the conquest of the Minmatar. At the battle of Vak’Atioth, a lone Jovian mothership savaged the combined Amarrian fleet. With the Amarr Empire reeling from the magnitude of their military failure, the Minmatar decided that their moment had come. All across the Amarrian slaveholdings, indentured Minmatar rose up and threw off their shackles. The Empire, unable to react promptly enough to quell the massive rebellion, were forced to withdraw from a huge swathe of worlds where Minmatar slaves had dominated the workforce. These regions of space in time became the Minmatar Republic, a Gallente-backed political experiment uniting four of the seven Minmatar Tribes under a democratic government. While both the Minmatar Republic and the Amarr Empire retreated to lick their wounds and rebuild, both feel they have unfinished business that cannot be ignored indefinitely.

The year YC

In this uneasy peace, the four empires sought some measure of stability while they took stock of their situations. The "Yoiul Conference" (YC), was held on the Jovian battleship Yoiul between the five empires of New Eden (Amarr, Minmatar, Caldari, Gallente and Jove). Here the empires came to agreements on trade, communication and diplomacy, and together created the CONCORD assembly and its subordinate divisions to oversee and administer interstellar relations. Today CONCORD continues to support and manage many aspects of modern life where co-operation between empires is a necessity, and its expanded mandate from the five founding empires makes its five-pointed star a familiar and respected sight all throughout the New Eden Cluster.

The YC Calendar is the universal calendar of the New Eden cluster under the CONCORD treaties that govern Eve Standard Time. Year 1 of the YC Calendar corresponds to the year of the conference and respective treaties (23236 A.D. in the EVE Timeline).
